I learned quickly a family meal at dinner time does not have to come from the drive-thru window. With some simple ideas and some organization you may be preparing and making great meals for your folks each night of the week. If you follow these rules I will guarantee that you will face the satisfaction of making your folks ecstatic at the table.

The first tip is to place a shopping list inside your cupboard door and have a pen close by and handy. You’re going to scribble down what you need in your kitchen each time you open up that door. Make efforts to include the necessary food items and the odds and ends of any home. Inspire others in your household to also write down what they want to see on the dining table as well . Every one gets to participate in meal planning.

Buy yourself a calendar so that you can write down each day what dinner is going to be. Get everyone concerned and have them note down some suggestions also. This can help in your organization and everybody loves to see a follow up on their suggestions for dinner plans. Attempt to plan at least one week ahead. Don’t forget to be flexible however.

Get everyone else involved. I have two youngsters so they get to choose one meal every fortnight. My daughter picks one week and then my son the next. . I find a day that looks good and ask for their choice beforehand. They get excited to for having dinner at home because it’s their choice and I haven’t got to force anyone to eat anything.

Another good tip is to be flexible. Even though you would like to follow your meal planning the occasional pizza delivery or pick up is fine. Things occur that will make you need to adjust the schedule. You may employ a pot luck dinner night where everyone is on their lonesome. While somebody may fix themselves a sandwich some other person may choose a cook salad for dinner.

Bring your folks back to the dining table and make life straightforward for yourself by using these laws. With a little practice you may show the organization talents of a great cook and family leader. Your full family will be thanking you for your work.

Caliente! Stainless Steel Coffee Mug

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

A travel mug is the best invention since the wheel for those people on the go who like their coffee or hot cocoa to go with them. The variety of travel coffee mugs are endless, but there are some tips that you should think about before you buy. Travel coffee cups are typically plastic or stainless steel. The most cost economical of the two is by far the plastic variety.

While the stainless steel variety will cost you a pretty penny in the beginning, they will by far be the best option in the long scheme of things. The reason being is that plastic coffee travel mugs will break easier and not keep your beverages hot or cold (as the case may be) for as long as the stainless steel coffee mug.

The stainless steel coffee cup will keep your tea or coffee hot for approximately thirty to sixty minutes. They are also used to keep your drinks cold if that is your desire, but either way you should try to find one that offers double walled insulation. Another benefit to picking stainless steel is that it is much easier to clean and keep clean than plastic. The plastic version will eventually absorb the coffee, tea or hot chocolate. This absorption will lead to making all your beverages taste different and then you have to go and buy a new mug anyway!

However, if your preferences is still for a plastic travel cup then try to buy one that comes with a stainless steel inner wall. This might be the best of both worlds because the outside of the mug will not get too hot to hold, the inside will not get tainted with foul tastes, and you can choose from a bunch of colors and designs.

Another consideration is if you prefer your travel cup to have a large round bottom for stabilization or if you want it to fit in your car’s cup holder. A travel mug that fits snug in your Do you want your new mug to fit in the cup holder of your car or do you wish to be able to sit it places and know that it will never tip over? A travel coffee cup that rests in your car’s cup holder gives you the option to have both hands on the wheel or you could go with a cup that has a wide bottom, allowing you to sit it on flat surfaces. A non-slip bottom is preferable so that way your cup does not slip off the passenger seat. Nobody wants their coffee all over while they are driving!

The next consideration would be your travel mug lid. There are two types of lids: the snap on variety and the screw on type. Screw lids are the best safety option because once on they are not coming off. The plastic lids have the potential of coming off if they are tipped over or dropped. You might also want to think about the drinking hole and if you prefer one that is covered, not covered, one that slides over for you to drink or one that flips up.

No matter what you preferences, your coffee travel mug is the perfect gift for someone always on the move. You can find a variety of cups at many retail shops or online.

A Few Healthier Alternatives To Sugar

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

I will be the first person to concede that my addiction to sugar is nearly as big as anyone’s. I put myself on a weekly plan in which once or twice weekly, I give myself permission to indulge.

Besides this, I mostly stay pretty nutritious. This doesn’t limit my liking for sweet treats from fading however, & thus, I regularly notice myself searching for other means to add a sweet taste to my snack or drink.

The following are a few basic substitutes which you may be in a position to eat in place of sugar. Hopefully they will act to meet your needs as you keep the calories lowyou limit your calories.

The first option which I’ll cite is something that you’ll frequently encounter in items, & we’ll by and large relish its sweet taste. Honey is entirely natural, & keeps things healthy should you prefer to utilize it as your alternative to sugar.

Whether or not you are adding it to snacks or into beverages such as coffee, the pure ingredients of it should offer you a more nutritious method of sweetening your meals and drinks.

One more means you may pursue is via the utilization of fruit bits. For ages, I’ve been enjoying boring water while inserting a couple fruits to the water as I drink them.

This has less calories than juice & is very satisfying, yet it’s naturally sweet. Once you get used to this, I can truly guarantee you that you will most likely realize yourself not needing to go back to sugar whatsoever.

It is tasty and it is sensible, & there’s not much which bests the 2 of these things together with each other

Lastly, a new alternative has made its way into the world, and seems to be making an impression on scores of health and weight conscious folks.

Released just last year, Truvia sugar substitute is finding its place within the health world, and it’s taken from the natural stevia plant, meaning this is a natural substitute when compared to alternative typical artificial sugar substitutes.

Instructions for Making Banana Bread

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

One of the delicious treats that you can make for your kids as well as the rest of the family is banana bread. It is full of vitamins and is not complicated to make. Send some to school with the kids for snack time, make it to serve as a desert or create a great alternative to the typical breakfast. Using bananas that are a tad more ripe than those desired for eating by themselves is another way of saving money. Here is how to start.

Gather the Ingredients

To start, gather all the materials and ingredients you need. Take 1 3/4 cups of flour, 2 teaspoons of baking powder, 2/3 cup of sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, 1/3 cup of shortening or softened butter, some extra flour, cooking spray or butter to grease the pan and a cup of mashed bananas. Try to aim for 2 bananas mashed completely.

The Process

Pre-heat your oven to 350 degrees F. Grease all the surfaces of the inside of the pan. Sprinkle some flour into the pan, then shake the flour around until all the sides are already covered with flour. You can ensure that the bread will come out very smoothly this way. Mash the bananas, then mix them in with the other ingredients. Mix the sugar, baking powder, flour, salt and baking soda inside a medium-sized bowl.

Add the softened butter to the flour mixture, plus the shortening, then mix everything until the mixture appears like crumbs. Add two of the eggs then continue stirring. Pour the batter into the floured and greased pan. Put the pan inside the oven, then bake at 350 degrees F for 30 to 40 minutes. Try to insert a toothpick into the middle of the banana bread. It should come out clean to confirm that the bread is baked well.

Final Tips

Use the proper size pan and it will make this process much simpler. A 4 x 8 inch deep pan is perfect. The oven should not be opened a lot since this will increase the amount of time the bread will have to bake. Every time you open the door, heat escapes and reduces the temperature in the oven.

The bananas you choose should have a lot of brown spots on the peels. These overripe bananas are sweeter than ones that are just ripe. Covering your bread with aluminum foil will keep it from browning too quickly on top and leaving the middle raw. This lets the bread bake and slows down the browning. If you have extra bananas and want to make a couple more pans of banana bread, it can be frozen to use later and will be nice and fresh. Be safe and do not forget your oven mitts when removing hot pans from the oven.

Making Chocolate Banana Bread

If you want to make chocolate banana bread, this can be done by adding 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, icing sugar and a cup of dark chocolate chips. While you are mixing the flour and baking powder together, add your icing sugar. Use a double boiler to melt the chocolate chips as well as the butter. Use the icing sugar to dust over the loaf when it is done. Bake the bread for about an hour. Allow this to cool down for about 40 or 50 minutes.

Conical Burr Coffee Grinder – The Benefits and Disadvantages of Conical Burr Grinders

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

If your are truly interested in improving the taste of your coffee, you will want to have a coffee grinder that will make it possible for you to grind your own beans. When the coffee bean is whole, the extraordinary flavor of the coffee you are so fond of is trapped inside. Once it is ground, the coffee starts to lose its flavor. Coffee will taste its best if it is ground moments before it is brewed using your preferred method of brewing. A conical burr coffee grinder is an electronic coffee grinder that is the most superior one available today. For grinding your coffee at home, these are the pluses and disadvantages of grinding your beans with conical burr grinders.

Benefits:

1. Reduced heat generation – The reduction of heat that is created is among the best attributes of using this kind of grinder. The friction that is generated while grinding when using a conical burr coffee grinder is reduced because of the way the coffee beans are ground. Heat harms the coffee’s flavor, so this attribute fundamentally improves the way your coffee tastes.

2) Granularity — Ranging from remarkably fine to a coarse grind, you are generally in command of granularity while enjoying conical burr grinders. What this translates to is the ability to grind many different types of coffee using this electric grinder. If you’re making espresso, you must have the ability to grind the coffee to a particular size. Maybe you savor Turkish coffee; this involves grinding the coffee to a micro-fine powder.

3) Consistency — Constancy goes hand-in-hand with granularity. An advanced coffee grinder, such as this is, has the quality to deliver unchanging results. The use of hand-operated grinders or electric coffee grinders using typical blades may leave you feeling that it’s impossible to attain a consistently-sized coffee grind when you demand it. A precise grind becomes really critical if you’re concocting espresso or similar brews.

The Negative Aspects:

1. Pricing – Conical burr coffee grinders, when compared to other kinds of grinders, will be more costly. Even so, as these wonderful grinders can now be located at a price of under one-hundred dollars, this makes them affordable.

2) Cleaning: Conical burr grinders do call for a bit more time and elbow grease to clean than a unelaborate blade-style coffee grinder.

Doing Food Photography Differently

Monday, December 28th, 2009

Here are some simple yet effective tips for doing food photography.

Let there be light

Light is obviously the tool of a photographer second to the camera itself. Getting this right is always the trick with any kind of photography. With food photography though it is super important. Get it wrong and no amount of photoshop work will bring the picture to life.

Using Props

With food photography props often save the day. The reason restaurants use big and fancy plates to serve food on is because we eat first with our eyes! Choosing the right props for a food shot is imperative. Get it right – masterpiece. Get it wrong – roll up your sleeves and start again.

If you do a lot of food photography then shopping at second hand markets can be a great way to build your box of props. You can pick up expensive items like large pots and dishes and vases for a few dollars and a smile. If you do not do much then you may have to go shopping for what you need and bill the client!

Be Quick

If you are a slow-coach perfectionist then food photography may be hard for your to master. Like master chefs that throw masterpieces dishes together in minutes master food photographers capture the essence in minutes too. Be quick else it will be a mess is the thing to remember with food photography. As soon as food warms or cools it droops, melts, discolours and a whole range of other things. Be ready with all the lighting and use placeholder items such as places to get the lighting right. Once the food is there you should be shooting.

Instant way to improve your photos

One simple way is to simply use a light high quality vegetable oil and brush it on the food! This will create a high quality shiny finish that we love to see on food.

Touch base with the chef

You will usually be working with a food professional be it a stylist or chef. Hopefully you are not on a low budget shoot and have to do the displays yourself.

Take a few minutes before the shoot to talk with the chef and ask them how they like to work. Ask them if there is anything you need to know about the food that may not be obvious. If nothing else this will make them feel good so you will then be able to work closer and better together.

Singapore Actual Day Photography

Monday, December 28th, 2009

On a wedding day the two most important people are the wedding couple. An excellent idea would be to isolate the couple from the ongoing celebrations so that the photographer can capture the beautiful intimate moments between them and create some everlasting portraits Not only will you get your pictures but this will give they wedding couple some time away from the celebration as well.

Ideally, the photographer would be required to spend a casual amount of quality time with the bride and the groom during the portrait session. But this does not always happen since time is rarely a luxury anyone has; on the actual day. The time taken for pictures can well vary from an hour to no time at all. It can take up to an hour for the photographer to take the pictures.

When is the best time to take aside the bride and groom for some quality time with the photographer?

Most photographers tend to believe that the window before the reception is very suitable for portrait photography, since the couple would still look fresh at that time.

Award winning photographer Bradley Hanson says that sometimes the bride and the groom would want to start the portrait session even before the ceremony. When the bride is getting ready is when he usually starts photographing.

Other photo journalists believe that the right time for a portrait session is just after the couple has exchanged their vows, and are still are evidently feeling the emotions of being newly-wed.

The couple should set aside some time with the photographer so the perfect actual day photo shoot will be flawless. They should find ways to politely lose the relatives and guests to acquire the beautiful moments, so that they can be cherished for a lifetime.

A good portrait session on the actual day can be ruined by too many people trying to photograph the newly-weds. As a result of this, most photographers choose to have the couple alone for the shoot so that it is not disturbed by anyone.

According to award winning photographer Shawna Herring, most newly-weds start feeling uncomfortable before the camera when the portrait session is about to start. To help the couple forget the camera is there, the experienced photographer will try talking to the couple about things other then the portrait shoot.

Sometimes people will choose to go to a different location the day before the wedding to have the photo shoot done. To have a good relationship with the photographer this really seems to help loosen them up. Shortly after, couples sometimes forget the camera is even there.

It is at times impossible to achieve the perfect alone time with the photographer due to a variety of reasons. Working together with the bride and groom will help to achieve the creative portrait session.

Did You Enjoy That Recipe

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

I love whoever thought of the recipe to put peanut butter and chocolate together! It is the most creamiest, delicious, sweet, flavorful, fantastic item I have ever tasted! I wish I had been the person who had thought of this!

My grandma took a whole chicken and covered it with water in her cast iron pot. I always knew what she was doing when that happened. She added onions, and chopped garlic with fresh rosemary, salt, pepper and turmeric. She would then set the pot on the stove, cover it and let it boil.

Those cookies were to die for! Oh boy, what could be more scrumptious? I had never tasted anything so good in my life! Momma even liked them and she never liked sweets anyway. She just baked things for us because we liked them.

I really never intended for things to go so far. I never had said that I was exclusively dating either of them. But, that is how each of them took it. I was having fun and I thought they were also. I made a bad mistake.

Once the biscuit concoction was finished, she pulled out the pan and the smell was glorious! I could not wait to sit down to the beautiful creation! The chicken was delicious, and each mouthful of vegetables left me wanting even more. It was creamy, fluffy and smooth!

Punches were exchanged, words were shouted, and feelings were terribly hurt. Take it from me, always be sure people know your intentions. Date one person at a time and save your integrity. Do not be greedy. You will fair better in the end. And so will they.

Commercial Ovens Broken Down By Variety

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

The success of many businesses may very well depend upon a reliable commercial oven. Restaurants need large ovens to accommodate their need to cook for the masses, and the one they use will depend on a number of different factors.

Choosing the right type of oven doesn’t exactly depend on just one factor. Certain determinations should be made as a means of arriving at that decision. For example, how many meals do you need to prepare per day, and how diverse is the menu at your restaurant?

Amongst the most popular breeds of this oven style is the convection oven. The best quality of this kind of cooking appliance is the fact that a fan within the oven blows the hot air around the inside of the oven, letting the heat be distributed evenly to the rest of the food.

This is particularly useful for foods that may have been cold or even frozen before being heated. As you may well know, frozen preparations are often spotty once they’ve been done with heating.

Another popular style of oven is the conveyor oven, which works as the name may indicate. Food travels along a belt and slowly gets heated through an organized, timed process.

Then there’s the oven that you’ll find in just about every pizzeria around. What’s great about the pizza oven is the fact that food need not go inside it for a long time before it’s piping hot. People go to eat pizza for reasons of convenience, and that’s exactly what you’ll get when it comes to these ovens.

As far as knowing what to pay for your oven, it really depends on a number of factors like the size and the style that you go with. You should make this consideration based upon the style of your restaurant and the food you plan to serve.

Lastly, you should get as many quotes as you can before deciding on one particular oven. Whether you’re looking into auctions and classified ads for restaurants that recently closed or planning to buy a beautiful new unit, stop at nothing to make sure you’ve seen as many ovens as possible before making a buying decision.
