Sunday, January 31st, 2010

The marvelous thing about slow cooking is the way that you can throw a tasty meal together with just a a couple of ingredients from the store cupboard.

Your slow cooker will pay for itself very quickly. The hours you save when you are cooking your meal makes it priceless. But, if you want to make slow cooking part of your regular diet, then it pays to have a some staples to keep in your store cupboard to make meal planning simple.

Beans – Beans are a very economical source of protein that cook very well in slow cookers . Every bean has its own flavor which is increased by the herbs or spices you use to cook with them. Beans can make a meal base when you cook them with meat or even be the main ingredient if you are a vegetarian who wants to make a simple and speedy dish. Whether borlotti, lentil, haricot, or black-eyed, beans can be the start of some fantastic slow cooker dishes.

Fibrous Vegetables – For starters, these means good old spuds and the average kitchen has at least a few potatoes lurking around in the vegetable rack. They are a very versatile food. Mash them, stew them, fry them, or chuck them in the slow cooker.

Potatoes add density to soups, stews and meat-free meals. Potatoes and other fibrous veggies like carrots, swede and turnips, take a time to cook, so they can be thrown in the slow cooker with meat and can cook for a long time.

Fresh Herbs – Using herbs can dramatically change the flavour of almost any meal you make. Herbs can be bought dried, but they release a much better flavour if they are added fresh.

You can even grow your own fresh herbs on your kitchen window ledge. You just need a nice sunny spot, some compost, and remember to water them regularly. Home grown herbs can even be dried to extend their life, making them easy to keep around without worrying too much about wasting them.

Don’t forget to add your herbs near the end of the crockpot cooking cycle so their flavor fills the cooked meal and isn’t lost during the cooking time.

Farming For Chicken Meat

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

Every year vast numbers of chickens are raised and killed internationally – with 488 million slaughtered in Australia alone. The suppliers who work closely with their chicken farming businesses, making requests of exacting standards, are the best suppliers to work with. Chicken meat was expensive when I was young, but today it is one of the ‘cheapest’ meats available – and it is the use of factory farming methods that has led to it being cheap. Chicken that is free of antibiotics and raised in cage-free environments and processing plants that do not litter the good taste of the chicken with additives and preservatives let you know you’ve got a good supplier.

In the UK, the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs says that a free range chicken must have daytime access to open-air runs during at least half of their life. Free range poultry farming consists of poultry permitted to roam freely instead of being contained in any manner. Farmers raise layer chickens in small cages that house five to eight birds each.

Free-range chicken (FRC) systems have been questioned in terms of environment stability. FRC farming is an alternative poultry system for egg production. Freedom Food birds are not in the same league as free-range or organic (see the Good Broiler Guide), but they are a fraction of the cost. For an extra $1.80 – as opposed to an extra fiver for organic – all of us can at least buy a broiler with some kind of ethical guarantee.

Chickens are naturally inquisitive and need a stimulating living space, so Freedom Food approved farms provide them with objects to peck at and perch on, such as footballs, hanging CDs and wooden perches. Lighting is also taken into consideration.

Chicken is lower in fat than most other meats and over half of the fat is unsaturated fat, the type that helps lower cholesterol. The white meat is lower in fat than the dark meat of the chicken but the dark meat is higher in iron, an important nutrient for a healthy body.

Tips On Choosing An Event Photographer

Saturday, January 30th, 2010

Events like an important conference or a major client visit come rarely, and it is critical to keep a record of such events in the form of pictures, which you can later use for both internal and external circulation. Capturing of these images requires corporate photographers.

Photography for an event is an entirely distinct skill, as compared to other types of this art like landscape photography or studio photography. This is primarily because events take place fast and the photographer has hardly any control over the happenings. The work involved in capturing an event asks for know-how and a professional attitude on part of the photographer and not everyone can do a good job at it. But the key thing is, an event photographer does not usually get a second chance at a shot.

You need to keep various aspects in mind while selecting an event photographer for an important company event. As important corporate occasions are usually held indoors, he must be aware of how to adjust the settings of his camera accordingly. Even a great photographer would be of no help if the equipment is not of good quality, so you must ask for top-end equipment.

You will avoid a lot of trouble if you go to an established firm, which will offer you the services of a trained professional. You must check the work samples of the photographer and his familiarity with covering similar occasions in the past. Getting quality related information from the photographer’s previous clients can also be of help.

Of course, you have to inform the event photographer, who you intend to hire, about all the requirements that you expect him to fulfil. This step is the most critical, as without proper communication it would be difficult for the photographer to understand what your exact expectations are, and for you to be assured of good output. There is nothing like a good conversation to put the photographer at ease, and this way you would also be able to develop a healthy working rapport with your event photographer.

Should You Invest in a Hamilton Beach Processor or Not?

Friday, January 29th, 2010

Nearly all appliance companies offer food processors for sale, and usually each brand has a variety of models that have been intended to fulfill the requirements of a particular kind of user. Hamilton Beach is an example of these companies, and their assortment of food processors is varied enough to live up to the expectations of nearly any customer. A nice model to look into is the Hamilton Beach 52654 Blender Food Processor.

Hamilton Beach 70670

The mid-sized Hamilton Beach 70670 Chef Prep 525-watt kitchen food processor is known for strength and user-friendliness. This processor comes with a 10-cup chopping container, keeping food processing tasks quick and uncomplicated, no matter what the size. This machine has two double-sided discs for shredding, slicing, crinkle cutting and fine shredding. An additional large stainless-steel blade is also incorporated. An extra advantage is the inside cord storage to keep storage areas tidy and in order. Its cutting attachments are even dishwasher safe, and as a result easy to sanitize.

Although, there are one or two drawbacks which become apparent while working with your Hamilton Beach food processor. For starters, the look of this appliance is not quite so appealing as the look of other, higher end appliances. This is primarily the result of the construction of the chopping bowl which is made of lightweight, cloudy plastic. An additional slight frustration is a result of the motor, which is remarkably louder than other motors of the same strength.

Hamilton Beach 6-cup 70450

Hamilton Beach also offers a more compact, 6-cup 70450 food processor. The product features in-bowl blade storage, a 300-watt motor, a space-saving shape and attachments which are dishwasher compatible. The device comes with an on-and-off pulse dial that will be easier for cooks who want a manual option to control their processing speed while they combine additional ingredients. The central benefit of this appliance is its safety feature. The device will not turn on unless the lid is on and turned so it is locked. This is vital for making sure that debris can’t enter and food can’t leave the food bowl during processing. Another great option is the Hamilton Beach 52654 Blender Food Processor.

The one problem said concerning this model is the awkwardness encountered when sanitizing the machine. The motor shaft attachment is put together in a way that it goes through the blade, consequently, when that coupling is gummed up with food, it may prove especially hard to remove. Wiping the blade shaft with the help of a sponge could likewise probably cause soap residue which could be present in your next bunch of cucumbers.

Hamilton Beach 70590

The Hamilton Beach 70590 Big Mouth 14-cup food processor is one more model which comes with several dedicated abilities intended for a certain kind of job. The one of a kind ability of this device is that it could recieve bigger materials including whole cucumbers, apples and other large fruits and vegetables. The device’s expandable feed chute is seriously big, which makes it ideal for bigger pieces of food, which consequently means that the next big job will be speedier and easier to do. The food processor uses a 450 watt motor. More handy components include; a four position locking bowl, that will contain 14-cups of food, as well as the stainless steel chopper, shredder and slicer blades which you’ll find a snap to clean.

The 70590 14-cup model displays two disadvantages, and they each are concerned with space. The machine requires quite a bit of storage space, and as a result is not intended for a smaller kitchen. Also, there is a very gaping space between the bottom of the food chute and the disc, therefore when chopping vegetables, you will normally have a substantial amount of food which remains left over at the end of the job.

In conclusion, if you are looking for a food processor that can accomplish astonishing tasks with your food then Hamilton Beach food processors may be a product you ought to consider.

Want Something Sweetly With No Messy? Go For Honey

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

We all know it’s unhealthy to eat a lot of sugar, but sometimes, we just have to satisfy that proverbial sweet tooth. Unfortunately, substitute sugar alternatives are even less healthy than the real thing, with chemically based sweeteners like aspartame, saccharine, or Splenda. Even though these things have few to no calories, they are not without their risks, and some people are very sensitive to them and can’t have them. We also don’t know just what the long-term health consequences of ingesting these substances are. Honey is a great alternative to this, but you can’t just buy honey in convenient quantities, always, and store it for long-term use. It’s inconvenient to use, and it can be messy as well.

Fortunately, there is an alternative. Organic honey crystals have all the convenience of sugar (as well as the long-term storage capabilities), and you measure, use, and store this “Sugar honey” just as you do sugar. You can use it in anything; use it to bake cakes, stir them into your coffee or tea, sprinkle them on oatmeal or cold cereal.

Organic honey crystals let you have all of honey’s benefits with none of the mess. Think about that for a minute; why do you buy honey? It tastes great, of course, but there’s also the fact that it’s natural and organic, has some vitamin and mineral content, and beneficial antibacterial properties, too. Besides that, it has a taste that no other sweetener can match.

Organic honey crystals have the same great taste with none of honey’s inconvenience. No mess, no crystallization, no long term storage problems. Children love organic honey crystals, too (although as with any honey, this ‘Sugar honey’ should not be given to babies under one year of age because of potential food poisoning contraindications). And because it’s has no mess, you can let your little ones handle the ‘Sugar honey’ themselves, without fear of sticky fingers, or any sort of mess.

Can you have Sugar honey if you’re diabetic?

As with any caloric sweetener, including regular honey, diabetes patients need to be careful of the sugars they eat. However, as with regular honey, someone that has type 2 diabetes may be ready to use organic honey crystals parsimoniously to better effect than refined sugars, without the same hazards refined sugar use routinely give you. As with anything diet, check with your health care practitioner if you have diabetes to discover if ‘Sugar honey’ can be a healthier alternative for you moderately than refined sugar is.

Beyond all of the health benefits, naturally, Sugar honey is just a great way to have honey taste without any of the mess or fuss regular honey can offer you. There are no problems about crystallization, no problems about storage, no sticky mess to address. If you typically buy honey, try some Sugar honey to see if organic honey crystals make a fine addition to your cupboard or cupboard, for all your baking and cooking wishes. Try it; use it in everything you normally use sugar for and see if you do not like the taste even better than regular sugar gives you. To a healthy life and a ‘sweet’ beginning!

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

Do outdoor electric grills interest you? That’s great. But do you know that purchasing one turns out to be a tedious job if you aren’t quite sure about the features, price as well as other necessities. I don’t want to disappoint you say all these; instead I have come up with some great ideas to help you find the best outdoor electric grill and that too at reasonable price range.

When you buy an outdoor electric grill, I believe you are going to use it for quite a few months. Am I correct? If your answer is yes, then what’s the harm in paying a bit more on the outdoor electric grill with more additional features? Personally, I would suggest you to choose the portable outdoor electric grills; the reason is because it will save you time on the installation part. In addition, you should also choose the one with a nonstick surface and removable plates, so that you don’t have to spend a lot of effort to clean the grill after using it.

Another feature that you might want to take consideration is the grill with dome lid. The reason to choose dome lid is because it can circulate the hot air easier and also it assures that the meat can be cooked evenly. The greatest benefit with such grills is that you do not have to handle the light fluid. In some case, if you are negligent on your part and fail to handle the light fluid correctly, it may result in severe injuries.

There are number of options for you to get the outdoor electric grills at reasonable price. For instance, you can buy your grill from the online stores or auction sites at a very cheap price. If you don’t want to buy on the internet, you can visit the clearance sales at your nearest place for cheap outdoor electric grill.

You do not need to worry about the empty gas tanks or restocking the charcoal stash if you are using the electric grill. The reason is because the grill will be ready once you turn on the knob and wait few minutes for preheat purposes.

Most of the electric grills have automated temperature control that helps in sustaining the required heat. If you lack patience to stick to your old charcoal grill then the outdoor electric grill is the right option for you. As mentioned earlier, you can clean these grills easily and are less messy. You don’t have to worry about cleaning the ash or disposing the charcoal.

However, there are some disadvantages on the outdoor electric grills which you need to pay attention to. For example, in order to use your electric grill, you need to use the extension cords and it might be run at a risk. If anyone trip on these cords, the result obtained maybe too dangerous to mention. In addition, if you love the natural essence of wood then this type of grill might not right for you.

No matter what is your final decision, please do consider the above mentioned factors before buying your new set of outdoor electric grill.

Follow A Proper Diet For A Colon Cleanse

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

Over time, the colon experiences quite a beating. This is all thanks to our poor eating habits, when we vacuum up absolutely everything that we can cram into our mouths, eat whatever type of food as long as it’s available, can end our hunger pangs, and is affordable, and take a bite out of things that simply taste good, regardless of whether or not it is really bad for us. As a result, we not only gain weight, but we also introduce a lot of toxins and substances into our bodies. The only way we can get rid of those toxins is by performing a cleanse, and a colon cleanse can be especially effective in fighting off these waste materials.

The colon cleanse is met with skepticism by some people, saying that the colon is well equipped to handle any waste that we can throw at it. Still, some colon cleanse supporters argue that if that is the case, then why are there a lot of wastes that are not excreted by the body on its own, but can be removed with a cleanse? Whichever side you choose, it couldn’t hurt to give yourself a little extra detoxification.

You don’t need to do a colon cleanse that can be considered extreme, like regular colonic hydrotherapy sessions or month-long colon cleanses. All you really need to do is to be able to eat better and find the foods that can help sweep your body clean of all the toxins. Planning such a diet won’t be a complicated thing. You don’t really need to find expensive, hard-to-find food items to help your cleanse. Even your favorite supermarket can have the ingredients you need for a colon cleanse.

Let’s start with vegetables. Not only are vegetables a good source of vitamins and minerals, but they also contain a lot of fiber, which is instrumental in cleaning out your system. Eat more vegetables than you do meat and junk food and soon you will feel a significant difference in how your body feels. You should also eat more fruits. They’re one of nature’s most powerful cleansers, plus they’re good for you as well. If you don’t want to eat fruits, you can simply mix them together for a nourishing and refreshing fruit smoothie.

Drinking water is also one of the best things you can do for your colon. Water washes away a lot of impurities and it also helps loosen materials in your colon. Such food items and substances will absolutely work wonders for your colon–and you don’t even have to spend so much or sacrifice a lot of things to do so.

Drinking water only is a common colon fasting program. Get more ideas for a fast colon cleanse.

Basic Etiquette For Waiters In Restaurants

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

There is nothing worse than having a dining experience ruined by an obnoxious waiter. Even though certain behaviors are obviously inappropriate, some waiters in restaurants still do the most annoying things. Here are some dos and don’ts for waiters that will make eating out a better experience for everyone.

For starters, don’t hang around the guests while they are eating. Shortly after their food has been served, you should pop over and make sure they are satisfied with everything. Then leave them alone to enjoy their meals. Scan the room frequently to see if any of your patrons are trying to get your attention.

Also, don’t pressure them into making a decision about ordering if they are not ready. If they say that they need a few minutes, actually give them a few minutes before you come back. Don’t come back in 1 minute with pen in hand. If they are not sure what they want, don’t roll your eyes or otherwise express annoyance. It really shouldn’t matter to you how long it takes them to order anyway.

Whenever a restaurant customer has a complaint, no matter what, tell them you are sorry for the inconvenience. Do this even if you did nothing wrong. Don’t argue with them or make excuses. Just tell them you will get the problem solved and then go do so. If you personally can’t fix things, get somebody who can.

One of the most overlooked pieces of waiter etiquette is the removal of dishes after the meal. Many waiters make it seem as though there is a plate shortage in the kitchen. Before a patron has the chance to swallow their last bit of food, the waiter is appearing asking if he may take away her dishes. This is rude and very off-putting. If customers want their plates removed, they will set them to the side or ask you to come get them.

Another note about dishes is this: do not, I repeat, DO NOT remove one person’s plates if another person is still eating. This is one of the most basic concepts and yet it is shocking how many waiters still do this. Removing one person’s plate sends the message that it is time to finish eating. It makes the person who is still eating feel uncomfortable, especially if he or she is the only one.

Additionally you should never chomp on gum or play with your hair while talking to customers. Don’t shout or argue with other employees when diners can hear you. Don’t light up a cigarette where they can see you. No whining about how tired you are how you can’t wait to go home. Do not yawn or act bored or otherwise give off the impression that serving them is a nuisance for you. And by all means don’t count your tips in view of people eating. Nor should you hint at getting tips.

Just be pleasant. Always make sure your uniform is clean and pressed and that your hair is combed and neat. Make sure each customer gets at least one smile and speak to them politely. Be sure to thank them before they leave and tell them you were happy to serve them. Even if you weren’t.

In the city known for its popular vacation destinations for Vancouver travel, have an enjoyable dining experience at the many accessible restaurants. Also, when purchasing Vancouver real estate, you may want to consider an area with lots of options for delicious foods.
