If you want your customers to be impressed when they visit your restaurant or takeaway, you need to display your food in a good looking menu. It doesn’t matter who you are trying to impress, if the choices are badly defined or visually dull, then you are not going to inspire anyone. If you cannot afford to go down this route, consider some of the tips mentioned below.
One of the most important considerations when designing and laying out the takeaway menu, is the placement of the content as opposed to the graphics, pictures and colour schemes. If your page being designed is a single page for example, the prime area is the middle third. The most profitable items should really be placed in this area, with the secondary objects at the top of the page and the least profitable at the bottom. In order for your customers to know your brand image, it is wise to place your company logo in the top left corner of the page. It is good practice to display a line of text under the logo which describes your restaurant or takeaway service, for example: ‘quality takeaway Liverpool‘. You may wish to be more specific with the advertising of the spectific food type, for example: ‘Chinese Takeaway Birmingham‘ or Indian Takeaway Birmingham .
If you wish to make certain areas of the menu stand out, then you can employ the use of certain tactics such as highlighting or emboldening the text. Don’t go mad with the highlighting as this can become difficult to read – use about 4 or 5 only. If you understate rather than overstate, you are likely to achieve a better quality effect. Using bold on elements to add emphasis is another useful tactic, but also needs to be restrained. Increasing or decreasing the margin and the use of icons also works well and helps to draw the attention of the customer to a special dish or offer.
Try to use care with the images and be selective, ensuring first that the quality is as high as possible from the start. The customer is not likely to want to buy the food, if it looks like it resembles dog food!
