One of the top cosmetic issues that people have is the yellowing of teeth, which is a very preventable condition. Things like cigarettes, coffee and soda can be avoided to easily side step the problem of yellow teeth. Yellow colored teeth is an embarrassing problem that can lead to problems with self-esteem and a lack of confidence.
Some people are afflicted by naturally yellowed teeth. Those people are not suffering from a dental issue, they simply were not meant to have stark white teeth. In normal teeth, the external layer is white. But the layer just below, called dentin, generally has a bit of a yellow tint.
Some people have dentin that has not mineralized completely. This leads to a more translucent area in the center of the tooth. The yellow that is seen on some peoples teeth is actually the color of the dentin becoming more mineralized and showing through the outer layer. Ordinary tooth whitening treatments can’t do anything about this sort of yellowing.
Aging is another natural reason for tooth yellowing. Even though you have faithfully maintained good dental hygiene, your teeth will continuously accumulate staining agents, resulting in a yellowish appearance. Further, as time passes, the outer enamel layer of the tooth becomes thinner, making the dentin more visible.
In most cases of yellow teeth, substandard dental care is to blame. Though you may believe that this dental problem is the result of other issues, poor dental care is the most common reason for yellow teeth.
Different types of food and drink, known as color imparting or chromogenic, are able to change the natural white appearance of teeth over time. Noticeable yellowing of the teeth can be blamed on this type of food and drink that we commonly incorporate into our diets.
Therefore, before it is too late, steer clear of the foods and drinks that may cause your teeth to turn yellow.
