Crucial Information On The Subject Of Acai Berries

Friday, March 12th, 2010

Until recently the acai berry (pronounced ah-sigh-ee) was a fairly obscure, unheard of food. This berry is local to the Amazon rainforest and it is particularly delicate. Therefore it has only been in recent times that it has become available for wide-reaching utilization. However, it is a natural occurring fruit and while it is more alien it is just one of many nourishing fruits such as blueberries, cranberries and pomegranates.

This diminutive little purple fruit, that is about the size of a large blueberry grows in bunches on the Amazon palm tree, the same palm that provides hearts of palm. This berry has been a staple food or the population in the region for hundreds of years. It is a exceedingly rich source of antioxidants, amino acids, vitamins, minerals, fiber and Omega 3 fatty acids.

There has been quite a bit of hype and promises made about the aptitude of this little fruit to support in weight loss, disease prevention, anti-aging and more. The fact is that this berry is an extremely healthful addition to any diet and it could probably be a benefit for all of those things just because of its excessive antioxidant and nutrient matter. However, it is not a magical potion but just an ennormously nourishing food and other foods are also particularly healthy and can be a factor to fantastic health.

Due to all the claims one may speculate about the probable side effects associated with the consumption of this berry. Just as with any fruit, if you eat too much at one time you may suffer from some intense intestinal upset, however it will be short-term. There are no known long-term destructive effects just as with any other fruit.

Much of the excitement has been because the acai berry has been featured in the media on shows such as Oprah and Rachael Ray as well as many of the nationwide news media. While many eminent nutritionists and doctors have proclaimed the benefits of this fruit, one must bear in mind that they also advise other healthy foods, such as spinach and blueberries and that the acai is just another wholesome food. The majority of the brand name products have not gotten an legitimate endorsement.

There are some vital nutrients found in the acai that can play a role to healthy weight loss. These berries are high in anthocyanins, which is an antioxidant that has been confirmed to help out with weight loss in studies involving laboratory mice. It also contains Omega fatty acids, which help kick-start the metabolism and a generous sum of fiber, which helps you to feel fuller, longer.

The acai contains one of the highest ORAC levels of any food on the planet. The ORAC is the Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity and it is a measurement of antioxidant activity. Antioxidants have been demonstrated to be exceptionally advantageous for the avoidance of illness and limiting the destructive effects of aging.

Basically the acai berry is an particularly nourishing naturally occurring fruit. It can be a healthy supplement to any food regime. You can frequently find the acai berry is pulp and juice forms, in a powdered extract form or as an addition to other healthy foods, such as meal replacements, smoothies and more. The thing that you need to look for is the way the fruit was processed as flash frozen or freeze-dried are the best methods to safeguard the nutritional content. The fruit cannot be found in fresh form outside of Brazil because it is tremendously perishable.

Acai berries give essential nutrients our bodies require to lose weight. For more information about acai palm stop by my blog at http://acaiwow.com

Paleo Recipes Are Faster Than Cooks May Think

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

No one likes the word diet. It seems restricting. Consider a new way of eating such as with paleo recipes. A paleo diet is simple as it is a change in the way a person eats today. Go back to the history books. People in the Paleolithic period did not munch on a bag of chips. They ate a healthy diet full of fresh fruits, vegetables, lean meats and seafood. They were healthier than the people walking around today finishing a milkshake.

This diet is easy to understand and select the correct foods to eat. Remember if the food was created by the result of animal husbandry or agriculture then it is not one that should be consumer while on this diet. The examples are potatoes, dairy, sugars, processed foods, beans and grains.

With so much of an average persons diet these days loaded with excessive amounts of sugar, salt and fats, it is refreshing to see that this diet has lots of health benefits. This diet encourages users to replace grains and dairy products with lots of fruits and vegetables.

There are health issues that cannot be ignored. They just worsen over time. These problems are contributed by the amounts of food an average person consumes as well as the types of food. The problems that are shown are increasing obesity rates in adults and children. There is a higher risk of heart problems and becoming diabetic.

There are some different ways to prepare a meal along the Paleo diet. One important tip is to make sure that all products are legume free. A legume is an ingredient that has peanuts, beans, peas, tofu, soybeans, flour or even soy milk in it. Do not use ingredients that have grains, salt, yeast, dairy, sugars, fats or starchy root vegetables in it. A starchy root vegetable is a potato, yam or sweet potato.

Create meals of excellence. Use the best and leanest cuts of meat. If you see any fat, trim it off. Encourage the cook to use different types of proteins such as beef, rabbit, chicken, pork, venison and seafoods. Meat organs can be enjoyed. Try beef heart or tongue in a meal.

Do not use yeast or any product that has yeast in it. This can be tricky as many products that are fermented will have used yeast in them. Be aware and shop smart. Pickled foods cannot be eaten on this diet either.

Cook heart smart. Use oils and healthy fats sparingly. Stay away from butter, lard, shortening and margarine. Use olive oils, canola, walnut, flaxseed or avocado oils. These are much healthier for the body.

Trying a paleo diet is not a bad idea. It is healthier for the body. A dieter will notice almost immediately that they will have more energy and therefore feel better. They will lose some weight. They decrease their risk of obtaining heart issues, diabetes or the slew of illnesses related to being overweight. A paleo diet can be creative and fun. Use your culinary imagination and a little help from the internet. You will be able to make all sorts of delicious recipes in a new healthy way.

How Halal Restaurants Abide Islamic Dietary Laws

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

A lot of us have seen the word “halal” on food labels and eateries, but not all of us know what it actually means. Our Muslim bfriends base their choice on this term because it indicates what is acceptable for them to purchase or consume. For a country that has inhabitants with mixed religious groups, that word is just as significant.

For Muslim-populated states, seeing halal on food items and restaurants is no trouble at all since they are run by Muslims who follow Islamic rules. But for states that have citizens exercising various religious beliefs, then halal is not that easy to come by. Fortunately, more and more establishments are becoming conscious of their customers’ preferences.

Halal means lawful or legal. If a food tag has this word on or a restaurant alleges they are halal-certified, it means that the preparation of their products is in accordance with the Islamic dietary law, and thus, they are allowed to consume the items.

So what is permitted in Islamic law? There are a number of guidelines, but let’s start with how a meat should be prepared. An animal should be slaughtered by cutting its windpipe and gullet quickly. This method of ritual slaughter is believed to kill immediately and painlessly.

If halal means lawful, haraam is the opposite. Muslims are not allowed to take haraam products, such as alcohol and pork. A halal-certified establishment and a halal-approved food product should not contain such ingredients. Also, they should be conscioushow they prepare the food, avoiding any contamination. If a spoon was already used for a meal with haraam ingredients, it should not be used any longer to make halal-approved products.

Haraam items also consist of blood, birds of prey or carnivores, animals butchered in the name of anyone but Allah, corpse of an animal, or those that have been sacrificed to another god.

There are Muslim groups who state food products as halal and give halal certification to eateries. Products that have halal authentication are the ingredients used by halal restaurants to make sure that they follow the Islamic dietary law strictly.

It’s good to know that there are eateries not run by Muslims that still make a great effort to adhere to Islamic dietary laws. It simply means that they respect all their clients and honor their orientations and faiths.

Iron Chef: Japan’s Culinary Sensation Takes America By Storm

Monday, March 8th, 2010

‘Iron Chef’ is a crazy Japanese import cooking game show that features accomplished chefs from around the world going head to head in a competition format that’s part Julia Child, part pro wrestling. Even non-foodies are drawn to the show for its sheer entertainment value.

The show was originally created by the Fuji TV network in the Japan, and the original Japanese title translates literally to The Iron Men of Cooking. The premise behind the competition is even more outlandish. An eccentric millionaire and food lover MC Kaga, summons the summons the finest chefs in Japan to do battle in his kitchen stadium. Also in residence are three Iron Chefs, each representing a different type of cuisine (Chinese, French and Japanese). The summoned culinary challenger picks which Iron Chef he wants to take a crack at and the contest begins.

The chefs just dont pull out the best dishes from their repertoire–that would be too predictable. Theres a catch to the contest, and thats the fact that every dish must contain the theme ingredient which is kept a mystery until immediately before the contest begins. At that time, Kaga brings forth a heaping helping of whatever the current mystery ingredient is in a production of smoke and pyrotechnics. Sometimes the ingredient is something basic like tofu or apples, but it can also be something obscure like ox tail or some obscure shellfish.

At that point, the chefs have an hour to prepare a seven course meal, served to a discerning panel of B-List celebrities that usually include a couple of ‘TV Presenters’ and a ‘fortune teller’. The judges rate and discuss each course and declare a winner. Its a great honor to beat one of the Iron Chefs, though its no easy feat.

What really brings the show together is the announcing. Theres a hysterical play by play announcer, an excitable color commentator, and an even more hyperactive sideline correspondent who will break in the commentary frequently with revelations such as observing that a chef is using fresh ginger in a dish or some similar piece of trivia. Apparently one of the announcers is a legit sumo wrestling announcer in Japan, making the strange juxtaposition between cooking shows and wrestling even more complete.

The dishes that are presented are always amazing and creative. Sometimes they might not be the most appetizing creations, but that’s to be expected when you have to make a desert with something like pickled carp as a theme ingredient. The creative process and the competition is what makes the show a must watch.

The Food Network now produces an American-ized version of the show entitled Iron Chef America. Despite the similar format, it pales in comparison to the original Fuji TV production.

Apple Crisp Desert: The Background of the All-Time American Classic

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

Nothing says fall quite like apple crisp, the warm cinnamon scent and sweet apples as much a part of autumn for many of us as red leaves and cold weather.  Or, presumably, it reminds you of high school refrectories, where a really sad and soggy version of apple crisp is a common staple of dinner time.

Apple crisp, or apple crumble if you’re from the United Kingdom, appears like the sort of old time dish that’s been handed down for generations.  You can pretty easily imagine the travellers eating it at the first Thanksgiving.  Despite this antique feel, apple crisp has a surprisingly brief account.

Apple crisp doesn’t make an appearance in cookbooks until 1924, so its creation doubtless only goes back a few decades before.  This is a record of a bit more than a century, making it a fairly up to date addition to the american menu.  The dish became speedily and enormously well-liked by one or two years of appearing in cookbooks, as newspapers and personal recommendation spread the apple crisp recipe

A benefit of apple crisp is that it’s substantially simpler to make than apple pie, another fall fave.  Instead of needing to be in a position to create a crust for a pie and then get it baked exactly right a surprisingly tricky task, apple crisp only requires that you be in a position to layer the ingredients in an acceptable pan.

At its most basic, apple crisp is simply a dessert consisting of baked apple covered by a crisp crust.  Sometimes, the crust is also covered in brown sugar and cinnamon to add an extra level of sweetness to the top, as well as the brown sugar that’s normal with the baked apples.

More specifically, you’re going to find cooked apples, butter, sugar, flour, cinnamon, and frequently oats, brown sugar, ginger, and / or nutmeg.  There are about as many different recipes for apple crisp as there are folks that eat it, and even veteran bakers seldom make it the exact same way twice.

There are tons of variants possible from the selection of sugars to using oats to including other fruits.  Peaches are a fairly common addition to apple crisp, and it isn’t at all uncommon to find stuff like raspberry or blueberry crisp on the menu.

Rhubarb is a popular ingredient, because it provides a tart taste that contrasts with the sweetness of the pie.  For a similar reason, you want to consider your choice of apples, the most simple ingredient in the dish, when you make a decision to make your apple crisp.

An apple, of course, isn’t just an apple.  They come in dozens of varieties, with a massive range of sizes, tastes and textures.  Apples can range from reasonably sour to terribly sweet, and ensuring to get the right sweetness is crucial so that you will know how much sugar to use.

similarly, apples can have a variety of textures, from crisp to almost floury, and it’s urgent to grasp the feel of your apples before baked them so that you get an apple crisp that basically tastes good and has an agreeable mouth feel.

Traditions and Foods for Cinco de Mayo

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

Lots of residents in the US know a little bit about Cinco de Mayo. Some even celebrate it each year in one way or another. There are many who do not understand its history, however. If you were to ask an average American about why Cinco de Mayo is celebrated, they will likely guess it is Mexican Independence Day. That is not right. Mexican Independence Day falls on September 16.

In the 1950s, the United States’ Good Neighbor Policy encouraged its people to reach out to neighboring lands. This is when Americans were introduced to Cinco de Mayo. In the ’60s, the holiday was pushed further into the public eye by Chicano activists as a way to spark cultural pride amongst Mexican-Americans.

By the time the 1980s rolled around, the holiday had been slowly growing in notoriety. Throughout this decade’s commercialism, Cinco de Mayo had been advertised as an excellent holiday to devote to drinking alcoholic beverages from American companies. It is because of these companies that Cinco do Mayo had become mainstream in American culture, although the true meaning of it, to celebrate Mexico’s victory against the French in 1862, was diluted.

As Cinco de Mayo became more mainstream, more Americans wanted to explore better ways to celebrate. They began researching the Mexican traditions, foods, and music that would make Cinco de Mayo a holiday to anticipate every year.

Cinco de Mayo has become a wonderful reason to indulge ourselves with margaritas, nachos and all things Latino. You can get all dressed up in bright traditional clothing, grab some sombreros, throw a Mexican flag up on the wall, hang dried chilies around the house and just have fun. The schools teach about this holiday, so have your children share what they have learned and incorporate it all into your celebration.

Some people plan big parties for the 5th of May. It is no longer a holiday just for the Mexican community. People from all ethnic groups join in the fun. Some communities have festivals and parades to help the celebration mood. In some big cities, the celebration has grown to large proportions. Los Angeles, New York and Port Huron, Michigan are sites of very large Cinco de Mayo celebrations.

You can always stay home and celebrate with friends and family. To plan your celebration right, start thinking about how you can cook Cinco de Mayo food, find salsa music and supply fun and colorful decorations. Your private bash can become as fashionable as the community parties thrown around town can.

Cinco de Mayo is a great reason to explore those Mexican recipes you have been curious about. Make some great food for your family to enjoy and share some Mexican culture. Invite your friends to come over and have them bring some snacks.

If you find that the margaritas are better at the Mexican cantinas or you just love eating out, go for it. Your neighborhood Mexican bistro will have a great celebration planned. Just sit back, enjoy the music, and dance to your heart’s content. There is nothing that says you have to make it a huge celebration, either. You can pick up or cook your own simple meal, drop in a DVD of your favorite Zorro movie and sit back and enjoy.

If you like Mexican food, you can learn a lot about its history and preparation at MexicanFoodRecipes.org. From favorites like tamales to enchiladas to lesser known treats like posole and authentic Mexican rice recipes, you can find all sorts of great recipes here.

What’s “In” This Year?

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

Now that the last decade and all of the stupid fashions from those years have died out, are we set for fashions that make sense this year or just more ways to make a fool olf ourselves.

What are the main trends going to be for 2010 and why are they coming in now of all times?

Interior Design

People are not prepared to waste money anymore and when it comes to furniture they want quality which is apparently why people are not going to bigger shops this year where is that MFI now. It also seems that people are looking for classic furniture from the 60s this year as it lasts for a longer period of time. Bedroom furniture is set to be on the top of the list this year with white wardrobes being a must have. Dining room furniture is the next room on the list apparently.

Beauty

2010 is also going to be a big year for those people who wake up with bed hair and cannot be bothered to sort it out as bed hair is a must. On top of this grey hair and bold eyebrows are set to come into play along with a rather surprising bald headed fashion. shaving your head at the moment would not be a good idea, more cold weather is on the way!

Fitness

As much as I would like my girlfriend to take up pole dancing lessons it looks like that died with the Noughties and so far there are not really any specific things we can look out for when it comes to fitness this year. However group fitness is going to be big this year.

Travel

In terms of taking a vacation it looks like the end for staying in your own country as money comes in again after the recession and we set off to our favourite holiday destinations on a much needed break.

It certainly seems that money has a lot to do with the trends this year, you can see that we are coming out of a recession as the trends are starting to get a bit more expensive.

10 Paths To Identify Heartburn In Kids

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

Acid reflux disease or GERD is a condition where the contents of the gut enter into the esophagus and cause painful symptoms in the upper chest area.

Newborns typically spit up but may not really have acid reflux. Older youngsters may not spit up at all but could have more sophisticated indications of acid reflux. These are called silent symptoms and include :

1. Weight management

2. Trouble sleeping

3. Bad temper

4. Arching the back while feeding

5. Trouble swallowing

6. Discomfort in the stomach or chest.

7. Hoarseness in the voice

8. Frequent sore throat

9. A persistent cough

10. A failure to thrive

It appears that acid reflux occurs more frequently in kids born prematurely. There is no tie to any categorical time of prematurity. Premature children have not had an opportunity to develop all of their systems absolutely and thus have a range of different Problems, including acid reflux.

So the most important thing to realize when discussing pediatric acid reflux is that not all kids who puke or spit up have acid reflux and not all children with acid reflux barf or spit up.

There just is no dead on method of telling without the advice of a trained pediatrician. Since acid reflux in kids may be extremely sophisticated, the folks must arm themselves with what to look for and know what to do.

If you’re undecided if your kid has acid reflux, try keeping a diary of foods eaten and how frequently the child spits up or barfs. Also track symptoms the same way and pass this information along to your doctor. He / she will be able to make the correct call on treatment for your child.

In addition to the silent symptoms above, more significant symptoms are persistent complaints of heartburn, burning in the chest area or difficulty sleeping flat on the back.

Once you know what to go looking for, you can take your child to a pediatric gastroenterologist for evaluation. Take your diary with you and discuss everything with your GP.

There are many treatments for acid reflux and your physician will know what to prescribe. I wouldn’t suggest using over the counter drugs like Nexium, Zantac seventy five or Prilosec in youngsters since these were originally developed for adults with the condition and may be too robust for youngsters.

When it comes to acid reflux in kids, there truly are too many variables to think about, so please see your physician in all cases.

You can also find more info on Treatment of acid reflux in children here. Chronic heartburn treatment is a comprehensive resource to help individuals with acid reflux.
