Monday, July 5th, 2010

After a good session of juicing your favourite fruits or vegetable and no matter how cautious you were with the preparations, you cannot avoid from causing a mess. It is always nice to be spend some time to clean up all that mess and also the juicer itself after the session. As a health conscious person, just look at the cleaning up as another way of giving your body that much needed exercise.

If you are still mad about the fact that you have to clean up after juicing, then just get yourself a better machine in the future. Until you do that, then this article will help and guide you to use the juicers, clean them and the kitchen are and also how to do the maintenance on your machine. Hopefully, you will be able to have a cleaner and happier juicing session in your next time.

First, before you start juicing, why not line the area where you will be juicing with old newspapers? The newspapers will collect all tiny spatters from the juicers during your juicing process. After you are done juicing, just roll up the whole newspapers and throw them in the rubbish bin. No need to clean the area. All you need to do is to clean your machine. We will talk about that later.

The centrifugal juicers are brilliant in order to juice almost any kind of fruit and vegetables. It does the job very quickly and easily too. Nevertheless, they do have a difficulty in extracting effectively high amount of juice from grassed and leafy foods such as the wheatgrass, alfalfa, lettuce and other herbs. Not to worry, those juicers do extract juices from those greens, but significantly less than those produced by the twin gear juicer.

If you do not want to spend such a long time in disassembling and assembling the parts for each cleaning, then when you are choosing the juicer, buy the one with the least parts. It will save your cleaning time tremendously. If you do not mind, then head for any model that you think fits your personality and necessity.

Next is the triturating or also known as the twin gear juicer. This kind of juicer has a blade that turns at a slower rate compared to other juicers. It functions in two steps. First, the fruits and vegetables are crushed before being pressed for the juice. Those processes provide you with more fiber, enzymes, vitamins and other nutrients needed for healthy life. These juicers are also good for juicing leafy greens, wheatgrass, carrots and apples.

Many people buy a twin gear machine and then complained on the long time that is needed to yield juices and also the amount of time spent to clean those juicers. However, it is very vital for people with cancer or chronic diseases to get the highest quality of juices that can only be achieved by using those juicers.

This does not only symbolizes a modern living, but also a more healthy and happy living. Kids love juices and enjoy those in the form of juices. As they grow up, those children will love fruits and in fact, parents can teach their children to love fruits and vegetables by making them used to the vegetables without the parents pushing their children to eat those.

Mike Walker keeps a best juicers blog in which he writes and reviews about the best juicers he uses. He writes many types of juicer reviews such as citrus juicer reviews, centrifugal juicer reviews, wheatgrass juicer reviews and many more.

Water Filters: What Makes Their Installation Very Essential For Your Home

Sunday, July 4th, 2010

Water is essential for life. After all, more than 60 percent of our body weight is comprised of water. That’s why it’s recommended for everybody to drink 8 to 10 glasses of water daily. But it should also be guaranteed one ingests something that’s safe for drinking. And this is where the importance of water filters comes in.

Local or municipal water treatment services can’t always put in check outbreak of contaminants in water that make it to your faucet. For many developing countries, consumption of contaminated or impure tap water is the cause of certain epidemic diseases. Some if these waterborne diseases are: diarrhea, cholera, typhoid, dysentery, amoebiasis, etc. Left untreated, your life can be in great danger.

There are also certain types of toxic materials that may make their way into your tap water, other than those bacterial in nature. Chlorine, by-products of chlorine, and pesticides are some. Then there are also mercury, lead, iron, aluminum, etc. – some examples of heavy metal poisons. These heavy metal poisons are known in the medical world to cause certain cancers, such as those involving the colon. Imagine consuming 8 to 10 glasses of water with poisonous metals daily!

Drinking clean and pure water is vital for everybody, most especially children. It’s a requirement for their proper growth and development. Needless to say, water is a major role player within our bodies, for optimum health and functioning. It regulates body temperature, It transports nutrients and oxygen into the cells. It helps in flushing out toxins within our system. And the list goes further.

Bottled water cannot be a practicable alternative to tap water. Each bottle can be quite expensive not because of the clean water inside it. It’s because of the total costs of bottling, packaging, shipping and marketing. Other than the steep cost, there’s also the environmental issue that needs to be considered. These plastic bottles take up precious landfill space and leak toxic chemicals into groundwater. And it takes so many years before they biodegrade.

Boiling is effective in making sure what you drink is pure and clean. It’s great at getting rid of those bacteria that may harm you and your family. However, it’s not at all that practical, just like resorting to bottled water. Your monthly bills may swell up. It may take only a few minutes for water to boil all right. But imagine the amount of electricity or gas your stove consumes each and every day.

Installation of water filters can be a more practical solution than buying bottled water or boiling of water. Generally, there are two basic kinds of filters. One kind is something that you install directly in the faucet. The other kind is something that you set up in the plumbing system. The first kind is evidently cheaper, but regular maintenance is necessary. The second kind may be more expensive, but maintenance isn’t too often.

In addition, water filters use various filtration systems. What’s best for your home depends on the contaminants present in your tap water. That’s why it’s important to have your water laboratory tested. For present organic chemicals like pesticides, a carbon filter may be useful. But for present organic elements like iron or lead, a reverse-osmosis filter is more applicable.

How To Install Water Filters

Thursday, July 1st, 2010

Water collects impurities as it moves from the catchment area through pipes to our homes. Installing water filters is not difficult and will give you clean, clear water for drinking and cooking.

There are different types of units you can buy, but they all use cartridges to filter contaminants from your water. The cartridge you need will depend on the level and type of contaminant present in your local water. Be sure to read the information carefully so you select the right type.

The filtration unit needs to be placed in the cupboard under the sink. It needs to be out of the way so it doesn’t interfere with access to the pipes. But, also accessible enough that changing the filter regularly does not become a chore. Position the apparatus where you want to install it and use the holes in the mounts to pencil marks on the wall where the screws will go.

You won’t need a complete tool kit to undertake this task but you will need an adjustable wrench or one that is the right size to undo and tighten your plumbing fittings. You’ll also need a drill to make screw holes and a screwdriver to insert and tighten the screws that hold the mounts for the filtration unit.

Use your drill to drill holes at the marked spots. Hold the unit against the wall and using the screwdriver secure it in place. To do this, screw all the screws in lightly, and then gradually tighten each one by moving clockwise around the unit. When you are done check there is no movement in the unit.

The filter works on the cold water flow and this will need to be turned off. Some homes have a shut off valve under the sink. If you don’t have one of these you will need to turn the water off at the meter where it flows into your property. Once the water is turned off allow excess water in the pipes to drain by turning on the faucet.

On close inspection you will find a flexible hose that connects the water supply with the pipes under your sink. This hose needs to be disconnected from the pipe and reconnected via the inlet of your water filtration unit. Place some paper towels under the hose before you disconnect it to absorb any remaining water in the line. A similar hose leads from the outlet of the unit and you connect this to the pipe under your sink.

Water will flow from the source through the filter unit into your kitchen supply. Check that all the fittings have been tightened properly. It is now time to turn the water supply back on and check for any leaks. When you turn the faucet on, the water that flows will be discolored for a few moments and then will run clear.

It is important to remember to change the filter cartridges. The regularity required will be noted in the instructions that come with the unit. Water filters installed under the sink ensure you have clean and odorless drinking water in your kitchen.

A Whole Wheat Pancake Recipe To Please

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

Pancakes are a traditional breakfast food that is loved by people everywhere. There are many variations of this family favorite, from buttermilk pancakes with syrup to tasty delicacies featuring a topping of strawberries and whipped cream! However, if you are interested in healthy eating, your family will enjoy a more nutritious version of the pancake. While it is better for you, this whole wheat pancake recipe does not sacrifice taste!

The first step to creating these delicious pancakes is to combine the dry ingredients. Mix two cups whole wheat flour, one teaspoon baking soda, and one teaspoon salt together in a large bowl. Stir until combined and then add: one and a half cups chunky applesauce, one and three quarter cups milk, a teaspoon of vanilla, and two large eggs. Careful not to mix too much!

You may not know that one of the best kept secrets to creating pancakes that are fluffy and light is simply taking care not to over mix the batter. Yes, it will still have lumps, and that is what you want. Simply stir until the ingredients are combined and you will avoid gooey heavy cakes that are the horror of every cook.

Begin heating your pan and grease it using a small amount of butter or oil. This will help your pancakes not to stick to the pan. If you are planning on cooking other foods in addition to pancakes, a griddle is a nice option. Griddles always cook food through evenly and also allow you to flip pancakes easier and provide a good surface that will help with any sticking issues you may have.

When the pan you are using is properly heated you can begin to pour on the pancakes. It usually takes about one quarter cup of batter for each individual cake. When you begin to see bubbles forming on the tops, it is time to flip them. Allow both sides to brown lightly, and then remove from the pan.

These pancakes are crowd pleasers that would make a great addition to a breakfast or brunch. You may even find it fun and economical to host a breakfast for supper party featuring a pancake bar with both traditional and unexpected toppings. Your friends will be delighted and have fun experimenting with new variations and combinations of toppings.

Keep in mind that pancakes are best served immediately while still hot. They are delicious with toppings such as fruit, or simply with a dusting of powdered sugar. Any of these options would prove a more healthy option than maple syrup, which is quite high in sugar and calories.

All About Beko Fridge Freezers

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

The single one thing I love about Beko fridge freezers is that it features a design where there are a lot of compartments and space in the fridge. This is a great feature for me and my family since we eat a lot of snacks and keep a lot of leftovers in the fridge.

The fridge has an interior design that is really spacious so you can keep all kind of different food like eggs, butter, bottles, milk and other small items. The beko fridge freezer that I bought has a freezer at the bottom which allows my children to access their ice cream.

Another great thing about this fridge is its unique design. It has been years since I got my fridge freezer but its classic and ageless design makes it seem new every time. Some of my guest would never guessed that my fridge is already 8 years old. This unique, timeless design allows the fridge to accentuate any modern kitchen decor flawlessly.

To test its reliability at one point I had placed a thermometer inside my Beko fridge freezer to check on it. That simple test of mine did not fail me and that gave me peace of mind that the food stored on the fridge is always fresh because it can maintain the temperature. The freezer on the other hand never seemed to fail me every time I need ice fast. I often refer it as my reliable fast freezer.

The majority of the time the Beko fridge would operate silently behind the scenes of the kitchen. However, there are some time where it will grunt and groan a bit. But that’s just normal for any fridge.

Besides that I really did not notice any other great issue over the years of using a beko fridge. And if things do come to the point where I need a new fridge, Beko would still be my first choice.

Before you buy any Beko fridge freezers, make sure you visit BestFridgeFreezers.com now for all the tips, articles and tricks you need to purchase the best and cheap fridge freezers.

Water Filters And Their Benefits

Monday, June 21st, 2010

Have you ever gotten a glass of water from the tap and have it taste like lead? It’s not very tasty and there’s an easy fix to get rid of that situation. Water filters are economical, easy-to-install options that are reasonably priced and diverse in the benefits they offer.

There are several types of filters available, including whole house filters, under sink filters, faucet-installed, counter top, charcoal, ceramic and even UV water filters. The list goes on to include magnetic, ionized, and reverse osmosis as very useful varieties.

Filtration systems offer numerous benefits to our health, and prevent long-term problems by removing dangerous contaminants and toxic chemicals from our drinking water. Water filters are our last line of defense before consuming an important part of our daily hydration. Our family and children will reap the benefits of this decision for a long time to come.

The service that they provide is invaluable, so the prices are actually very reasonable. The smaller types, the pitcher filters, begin at an amount of $25.00. The larger types, the whole-house systems, have a price range of approximately $140.00 to $580.00. Certainly, the faucet fixtures and counter top models are easier to install, but they may also need to have their filters changed or cleaned more often as well.

Space is important to keep in mind when choosing a final model and you should work what will be most efficient for your needs. Since this is not something that should probably be moved around much, make sure that the space you want to use can be a permanent position for your counter top or under-sink model. One thing to remember is that the filters themselves need to be cleaned or changed occasionally and this should be considered in placement.

When you take a trip out of town or go camping, it might be hard to have clean water on hand. If you don’t take a pitcher filter with you, then maybe you will want to make your own water filter. The world wide web offers information on how to build just about anything, including homemade water filtration systems. It only requires a few ingredients that can be found just about anywhere.

By using a 2-liter bottle, a little gravel and some dirty water, you can make a portable filtration system that will clean water and make it safe for your consumption. When you cut the 2-liter bottle in half, invert the top half into the bottom, and layer the filtering ingredients in the top half, you will have a homemade system for your use. Experimentation with different ingredients such as cotton balls to see whether or not it gives you cleaner water or not.

Investing in water filters is something that will benefit your family for a long period of time, and will keep many harmful substances out of your children and fellow friends and family. Whether you choose a whole-house system or something as portable as a pitcher filter, your decision is one that will show rewards in many areas. Make sure your purchasing decision is one that fits your space requirements as well as your use needs because this is an investment into the life of your family.

Keep Food Fresher Longer With This Device

Thursday, June 10th, 2010

In this age of over-scheduled families, it can be problematic to create inexpensive, healthy meals for the family and still find time to savor them. Real food is sometimes expensive, and healthy dinners need time and talent to cook. So, what should a responsible parent do? Many challenges could be conquered with a substantial amount of organization and resourcefulness, and an excellent resource you will want to have working for you is the Black & Decker Fresh-Guard Vacuum Sealer.  Another good model is the Professional Vacuum Sealer.

Black & Decker’s vacuum sealer can be a convenient machine for storing fresh or processed food in a freezer. You only are required to pour the ingredients in the bag, rest the bag against the vacuum seal, and press a button. The appliance can vacuum the extra air from inside the bag and provide that bag with an airtight seal. This method of preserving food helps you to fix large batches of delicious vegetables and freeze half for a future meal. You could even fix entrees in advance and freeze them until needed. If the food is already cooked, you could drop the bag in boiling water or in a microwave and give your family a delicious, homemade repast in moments. Be sure to check out the Professional Vacuum Sealer.

The application of this vacuum sealer extends well beyond fixing your dinner, by the way. Vacuum-packed cookies and snack foods can be easier to ship for those of us who ship “care packages” to adult offspring in other cities or soldiers overseas. The bags are even very suitable storage devices for irreplaceable papers or mementoes, since they are waterproof and semi-rigid. These vacuum sealed bags are also perfect for packing shower gel or other hygine products in a suitcase – there could be a much smaller potential of your travel wardrobe being covered in sunscreen when you unpack at your destination.

The Black & Decker vacuum sealer may furthermore save a good deal of your money. Purchasing foodstuffs in bulk is a method to decrease your grocery costs, but not if your food goes bad before the household can enjoy it. If you purchase vegetables or meats in bigger quantities and freeze single servings of them for later, you will decrease your grocery expenses while still eating the dishes your family enjoys. This storage option also multiplies the shelf life of most frozen foods as much as 5 times longer than simply encasing them in plastic wrap or storing them in the manufacturer’s packaging. Vacuum sealing your foods helps to protect the flavors and remove all unneeded air, therefore removing the risk of freezer burn.

This convenient and money-saving appliance is adaptable, as well. This appliance is able to use either pre-made bags or plastic rolls made to be stored in canisters.  While Black & Decker naturally would hope that you buy their storage materials, this vacuum sealer is made to seal bags or other products manufactured by several national brands.

Feeding your household properly and on time can be a problem for the most talented parent nowadays. It’s comforting to know, though, that Black & Decker is able to make a convenient, economical and versatile machine to permit you to reach that goal.
