Tips to Improve Your Bowling Skills

Wednesday, August 11th, 2010

Bowling is a game everyone enjoys! Bowling can be played by people of almost any age, and in any kind of weather. Even if you have reservations about the funny shoes that they make you rent, just about everybody has a good time when they go bowling. Many people, of course, enjoy the game even more when their scores are high. What you may not realize is that you can improve your score quite a bit by learning a few simple tips.

One common challenge is knowing where to release the ball and when to do it. How many times have you ever seen someone release the ball, and it travels in the air and lands 10 feet down the lane? How many times have you forgotten to pay attention to what you were doing and accidentally sent your bowling ball flying back toward your team’s seats? If you’re a bowler, you’ve probably noticed several different factors that affect your delivery and ball release. The weight of the bowling ball is a huge factor, here. How far you need to lean and the length of your arms will influence your delivery and release. Try to pay attention during your practice, and you’ll soon learn the best time to release is the point just before the ball comes in contact with the lane. If you delay your release, the ball will not roll on the lane, not just yet, but it will after it lands with a loud "thud." I learned that playing the magnifying mirror marketing team during a match.

Use your own shoes. Sure most bowling alleys will rent shoes to you if you are just a casual bowler. However, if you intend to spend quite a bit of time bowling then you should really consider getting your own shoes. With your own shoes you will be guaranteed excellent arch support and perfect comfort throughout your bowling game. Your bowling will suffer if you are distracted by painful shoes. You need to consider getting your shoes ready as well by rubbing the toes and heels with a wire brush. Your shoes will have better traction and you won’t slide around as much.

Most new players won’t hit all the pins on the first try, but you do get a second shot to knock over the ones you missed. The easiest way to make sure that you get your spare pins knocked down is to aim your body away from the pins a little. Aim a few arrows to the left or right of wherever your pins are. If you have an unintentional curve on your ball, this can be a helpful tip. However, if you know you’re good with throwing in a straight line, stand a few inches on the opposite side of the center arrow as you aim right at the spare pins you need to hit. The tactic of standing just a little to the opposite side of the center line can be a great way to stop your ball rolling into the gutter. Practice will make your bowling game better, not unlike almost everything else in this life. There are hundreds if not thousands of tips that will help your bowling improve.

Asking an expert for some pointers is one of the very best ways to learn to bowl better. Beginners that are really interested in bowling can usually find an enthusiastic expert who will help them learn.

Amazing Cookie Recipe

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

Ginger’s Sugarsnaps. My 99-year old grandma Ginger just died in a tragic hang-gliding accident. Don’t be sad. She died doing what she loved. For nearly 80 years my sweet grandma Ginger would hang glide over the most destitute sections of America’s inner cities and shower them with her internationally famous sugar snap cookies, also known as Soundsnaps.

If you live in a destitute urban area of the United States then you likely know the distinct graupel-like sound of grandma Ginger’s cookie storms all too well. That’s why by 1960 people from areas of intense urban decay began to call these fantastic cookies “Soundsnaps.”

As her lone grandchild she took favor upon me and gave me her sugar snap recipe which I am excited to share with you here today. You might ask why would I share this prized family recipe? The reasons are two: 1.) I am a humanitarian and don’t see the sense in denying the slums and ghetto’s of the world the intense pleasure grandma Ginger’s scrumptious sugar snaps and the delightful Soundsnap they make; and 2.) I was born without arms or legs and though I have tried several times I have found that my condition prevents me from hang-gliding long distances. Since I can’t hang-glide, I can not continue grandma Ginger’s seven decade tradition of gentrification via inner city cookie showers.

If you can hang-glide and you can bake I implore you to take the recipe below and continue grandma Ginger’s legacy. Don’t let the Soundsnap die with grandma Ginger.

Without further ado here it is: Grandma Ginger’s Soundsnap Recipe.

Yield 5-6 dozen

Ingredients

1 and 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup cornmeal, 1 tablespoon ground ginger, 2 teaspoons baking soda, 1 teaspoon ground allspice, Chiffonade of 2 skins of extra-crispy fried chicken, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 3/4 cup shortening, 1 cup white sugar, 1 egg, 1/4 cup dark molasses, 1/3 cup sugar

Directions: Heat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees Celsius). Stir the flour, ginger, baking soda, allspice, and salt into a large bowl. Stir the mixture to blend evenly, and sift a second time into another bowl, make sure it is really smooth. Put the shortening into a large bowl and beat until nice and creamy. Slowly beat in the white sugar. Beat in the egg, and dark molasses. Sift 1/3 of the flour mixture into the shortening mixture; stir to thoroughly blend. Sift in the remaining flour mixture. Remove the extra-crispy skins from 2 fried chicken breasts and proceed to chiffonade. Add the chicken skin to the bowl with the other ingredients. Mix together until a nice pliable dough forms. Pinch small amounts of dough and roll into 1 inch diameter balls between your hands. Roll each ball in sugar, and place 1 and 1/2 inches apart on an ungreased baking sheet.

Bake in oven until the tops are rounded and slightly cracked, about 10 minutes. Cool cookies on a cooling rack of your choice. Store in an air-tight container or use your favorite vacuum sealer like a Food Saver, until you are ready to shower the inner-city of your choice with these Ginger’s Sugarsnaps. Soundsnaps!

All About Beko Fridge Freezers

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

The single one thing I love about Beko fridge freezers is that it features a design where there are a lot of compartments and space in the fridge. This is a great feature for me and my family since we eat a lot of snacks and keep a lot of leftovers in the fridge.

The fridge has an interior design that is really spacious so you can keep all kind of different food like eggs, butter, bottles, milk and other small items. The beko fridge freezer that I bought has a freezer at the bottom which allows my children to access their ice cream.

Another great thing about this fridge is its unique design. It has been years since I got my fridge freezer but its classic and ageless design makes it seem new every time. Some of my guest would never guessed that my fridge is already 8 years old. This unique, timeless design allows the fridge to accentuate any modern kitchen decor flawlessly.

To test its reliability at one point I had placed a thermometer inside my Beko fridge freezer to check on it. That simple test of mine did not fail me and that gave me peace of mind that the food stored on the fridge is always fresh because it can maintain the temperature. The freezer on the other hand never seemed to fail me every time I need ice fast. I often refer it as my reliable fast freezer.

The majority of the time the Beko fridge would operate silently behind the scenes of the kitchen. However, there are some time where it will grunt and groan a bit. But that’s just normal for any fridge.

Besides that I really did not notice any other great issue over the years of using a beko fridge. And if things do come to the point where I need a new fridge, Beko would still be my first choice.

The Perfect Wedding Banquet Hall

Sunday, May 23rd, 2010

The perfect wedding needs the perfect venue and what better place than an elegant and exquisite banquet hall? If you are planning a wedding and have decided not to engage the services of a professional wedding planner, then you most certainly have a lot to think of and plan: you will have to choose caterers, florists, music, photographers and most importantly – the right venue.

If the bride and the groom come from small families and don’t have thousands of friends, then a smaller venue should be just fine, but for large and lavish wedding, a grand banquet hall is the ideal place. Another great advantage of most banquet halls is that they often are located away from residential areas and are surrounded by big open space or have adjacent gardens, where the wedding ceremony can be held.

A banquet hall is perfect for wedding receptions as well since it is usually very spacious and the bridal table can be placed in a way that allows it to be seen from everywhere. When planning wedding reception, the first thing to consider, of course, is the number of the guests – once you have the final guest list and have found a few places that are large enough to accommodate the wedding, it is always advisable to visit the location. No matter how many pictures you might have seen, or how many friends have recommended it to you, only personal “inspection” will convince you that it is the right place for the event that you are planning.

If you feel that you have found a banquet hall that is spacious, reasonably priced and just perfect for the wedding, then it is time to work out all the details. Sitting all the guests and finding place for the cake, the gift table and the card table is something else that has to be taken care of. Then, it is time to think about the music – whether you have decided to hire a DJ or prefer live music, you have to make sure that there is enough space for all the necessary equipment and that there is a large enough dance floor for the guests.

Choosing the food isn’t an easy task either – traditionally sit down dinners are served at weddings, but buffet spreads or receptions with only cocktails, coffee and cake are also common. Always take into account the vegetarians, the vegans and the people that eat certain food due to their religious beliefs; don’t forget the kids either and make sure that there are enough sweets or other fun food for them.

Always reserve a banquet hall long in advance – the most popular venues are booked months and even years ahead and you don’t want to sift through dozens of venues, just to find out that the perfect one is not available at the wedding date. Organizing wedding ceremony or reception, regardless if it is small or large, requires a lot of energy, determination and careful planning, but with some help from friends, family and professional planners you can turn a memorable wedding day into an unforgettable event.

Banquet Halls

Thursday, May 20th, 2010

If you have been to a few weddings, large corporate parties, fundraisers or engagement parties, then you most probably have seen a few banquet halls up-close and personal. The banquet halls are large indoor areas that are spacious and well-equipped to cater for large number of people. They are also usually located away from residential areas, often in rural or picturesque surroundings, which allow the event to continue well into the night, without breaking any residential area laws and regulations.

If you have a wedding or a large event to organize, you should take a few facts into consideration before choosing the best location. For more upscale events, you will most certainly want a more upscale venue; even though almost all banquet halls are spacious, with great look and feel, some venues are definitely more exquisite the others. Of course, this usually comes with a price tag to match, so you will have to find the right balance between the constriction of your budget and the glamour of the venue. No matter how lovely the hall is, simply make sure that is big enough for you and all the guests; always account for the few extra guests that might arrive and make sure that not only you have enough room for them, but sufficient refreshments, alcohol and meals as well.

Most banquet halls charge set prices per guest and rent for the venue, but there are some other charges that can quickly add up; these are charges for security, DJ, catering stuff, waters, photographers, bartending and cleaning. Of course, most banquet halls are owned by professionals, who are upfront with their customers they will inform you about their charges and regulations, and it is up to you to take everything into account.

Some of the biggest banquette halls can accommodate more than thousand people and even though it is unlikely that every wish or whim can be satisfied, always make sure that the venue is right for the event; if there are kids present and the event is during the day or the evening, then a hall with large outdoor area, where they can run and play freely, is simply great. If a lot of young people and a DJ are present, then the venue should have a large enough dancing floor. Even though we all know just how bad smoking is, perhaps at least a few of your guests will be looking for a place to light a cigarette or two.

Fantastic banquet halls can be found in almost any big city, some of them perfect for small parties, while others big enough to host a lavish wedding; large lobby entry, elegant flooring, opulent carpeting and great atmosphere is what you will find in many of them, but at the end of the day all that matters is for everybody to have a great time and lots of fun. And even though organizing large events isn’t an easy task, with careful planning, extensive research, and a lot of work, you can find the perfect venue for every occasion.

How To Celebrate Mother’s Day With Your Kids

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

With Mother’s Day approaching, children and fathers have a wonderful opportunity to show mom how much she means to the family. This can sometimes be a little stressful for dads as kids come to them looking for ideas of special things to do for mom. But this doesn’t have to be stressful.

One simple but very popular Mother’s Day treat is to make breakfast for mom. This is a tradition in many families.

A tea party is another idea that little girls will especially love. Mothers and daughters can dress alike try poodle skirts and really make it a fun day. Hip Hop has child and adult poodle skirts as well as little bow ties for the boys.

Another idea is a dance. Little kids love to dance, and so will mom, particularly after she sees how excited her kids are about the dance that they planned and set up.

How about cleaning the house for mom? What mother wouldn’t love to wake up on Mother’s Day to a clean house and the smell of breakfast being cooked for her? Make sure you let her sleep in as well this will give you more time to get everything ready!

There are also lots of crafts that the children can do with mom. This creates a fun activity, and the resulting craft can be mom’s gift. This can make a great family tradition, and the craft activities can progress in difficulty from year to year.

How about planning a flower for mom? You could buy her a potted flower plant, or you could start with seeds and go out and plant them together. She’ll be able to enjoy the flowers again and again as they bloom! Another idea is a letter telling mom how special she is.

Dads can help younger children with the writing and with many other ideas. Have them draw a special picture if they are too young to write. What could be more special for a mom on Mother’s Day?

How To Organize A Family Reunion

Tuesday, May 11th, 2010

Family reunions are never easy things to organize, whether it is down to work commitments, or whether it is down to the fact that somehow you have lost contact with certain members of your family.

It is not always easy for everybody to be off work at the same time, some people work strange hours ,some people work away from home, some work permanent weekends, it can take a lot of planning.

Sometimes you may have lost contact with family members down to one reason or another, but if somebody else in the family can contact them, why not let them help.

It can be less time consuming and much easier to plan if other people help out a little.

If money is tight then you will not want to spend a fortune that you cannot afford on hiring a venue, a happy medium must be found as long as it suits everybody, location has to be important as well as how many people are attending.

If people have to travel a distance to get to the reunion it would be helpful if there are other family members willing to accommodate them whilst they are there, some grandparents may need looking after.

As the reunion gets closer, make sure that everybody is still able to attend, a few phone calls or emails could do the trick, just try to keep in constant contact.

If you have a planned list remember to remove anybody that has to cancel, this is definitely the case if you have had to hire somewhere and are paying for a buffet lunch, this is normally priced on a head count that you have to pre-book, there is no point paying for people that do not show up.
